Family Portraits – When given carte blanche, it’s a cardinal sin to be boring!!

Time goes very quickly when you are busy getting on with things. Almost forgot to do a blog this month. Nevertheless, I’m here and this is the October blog.

September has been a very busy month for me, but it is always nice to ‘take time out’ and do some family portraits. Family Portraits, we have seen them all haven’t we? I’m one for always trying something a little different, whether it works or not is besides the point. The mere fact that you’ve tried is enough to feel good about your effort. But when your effort yield such results and the family is ecstatic about the composition, then any doubts you may have had quickly dissipates.

A while back, I tried out a composition on a family that worked a treat. In fact it is on the website’s opening slideshow under ‘Family Portraits’ and has been talked about and often requested when doing family or group shoots. I have lost count the amount of Mepham Shots that I have done. That is a good thing for a working photographer.

The Mepham Shot.

Clearly, I love this composition why it graces the website slideshow. Now I want to introduce you to a new composition to add to my list of unconventional family portraits. The Quinn Shot – above leading image.

I’m very pleased with the outcome of this shot, so much so that I cannot make up my mind whether I prefer the colour or the monochrome image. My mind changes from one day to the next. So far the vote is for the monochrome image. Ask me again in November.

All in all, it was just a marvellous shoot. A great family/client to work with and an occasion when I was buzzing with ideas. With that combination I wanted to do something special, primarily as the family gave me carte blanche!

So a fairly brief blog to show a sample of my portraiture work in particular family portraits. Always searching for new and bold ideas to cut away from the same-same images you see around you. I do traditional family portraits and am happy to continue to do so as per clients’ requirements, but if you would like something a little different – not the norm, then please contact me and share your ideas. Hopefully, we can add this to the exclusive membership of ‘EP’s Alternative Family Portraits’ and we may start something pretty bold, if not spectacular, together.
